Whether you are a first-time homeowner, moving up to a large home or downsizing to a smaller one, your new home will need new stuff. What sort of stuff? How about window blinds, a washer, dryer and refrigerator? You can all of get those from Highland Homes if you purchase a move-in ready home in Veranda by Nov. 30. What other things might you need? We have some thoughts.
Bath Essentials
Shower curtains, bathmats and towels wear out. Buy new items if you gained a bathroom with your new home or upgrade the old ones. Plan to have at least two sets of everything, including bath towels, hand towels and washcloths for each bathroom.
Rugs
If your new home has hardwood floors you want to invest in area rugs. They accent rooms and keep furniture from scratching the floors. Check old rugs for wear and tear before moving them. If they look shabby, replace them. Don’t forget a new doormat to welcome guests to your new home.
Window Treatments
The Highland Homes’ incentive will net you beautiful faux wood blinds, but why stop there? Your old curtains might be stained, dusty or worn out. Leave them behind and redecorate. Curtains also can make small rooms seem bigger and narrow rooms wider. A new home also means new windows that might not be the same size as your old ones. Measure your new windows to see if your old window treatments will fit. If not, time to shop.
Appliances
New homes are usually equipped with microwaves, dishwashers and stoves. They won’t have refrigerators, washers and dryers (unless you take advantage of the Highland Homes’ incentive). That means moving your old appliances or purchasing new ones. If those appliances are outdated, purchase newer, more energy-efficient ones.
Ladders
If you are moving from an apartment to a house, you will need a ladder. If you are moving from a single-story home to a two-story home, you will probably need a longer ladder. Be sure to have one by the time you move in so you can hang pictures and curtains.
Cleaning Supplies
Your cleaning supplies may need to be cleaned out. We are talking mops, brooms, sponges, toilet brushes and plungers. They are dirty and germy. Why would you want to pack them?
Furniture
If you are moving to a bigger home, you may need more furniture. If you are downsizing, the furniture you had might not fit into your new home. Measure your rooms before you move in. Decide what you need right away and what can wait a few months.
