Shantelle Slaughter may be new to her role as Assistant Lifestyle Director at Veranda, but she’s neither new to event planning nor to a Johnson Development community.
She grew up in Veranda’s sister community Sienna and has been helping her own sister Shanelle Channell — former lifestyle director at Johnson’s Riverstone community and now on the lifestyle team at Sienna — for years.
“I helped my sister a lot on the side, she never paid me for it, though,” Shantelle laughed. “I loved growing up in Sienna. I never thought I’d end up working at a Johnson community, but it’s definitely a blessing.”
Shantelle is a newly minted graduate of Houston Baptist University with a degree in Mass Communications/Mass Media. She says her job fits snugly into her college education.
“What I’m doing here has a lot to do with mass communications,” she said.
In addition to assisting Veranda’s Director of Fun Damien Pennington plan events, Shantelle manages clubhouse rentals and the fitness center for Veranda. She also communicates with residents on a regular basis.
“I’ve only been here a month, but I most love when I get to talk face-to-face with residents to start building relationships with them,” she said.
Shantelle says the residents have been very friendly.
“Everyone is so nice,” she said, “and the community is beautiful.”
